Extraordinary Lutheran Ministries organizes queer seminarians and rostered ministers, confronts barriers and systemic oppression, and activates queer ideas and movements within the Lutheran Church.

One of ELM’s programs is Proclaim, the professional community for Lutheran ministers and candidates, who publicly identify as queer.

Some of Proclaim’s Current Projects:

  • Annual National Proclaim Gathering and Regional Meet-ups
  • Proclaim Chaplains – 4 members of the community serve as chaplains to the community
  • Active closed private Facebook group
  • Various Proclaim member-led affinity groups

Proclaim is a living witness of Extraordinary Lutheran Ministries’ core belief that LGBTQIA+ ministers transform the church and enrich the world. We believe God’s Great Welcome Table is open to all, and that all kinds of people, including those of all sexual orientations and gender identities, are called to receive and share God’s gifts.

Proclaim hosts an annual national gathering for members as well as local and regional meetups.  We move the national gathering around the country (west, midwest, east).

Proclaim was officially launched April 2, 2011, at a gathering of nearly 60 LGBTQIA+ Lutheran rostered leaders, seminarians, and spouses.

Proclaim is open to rostered ministers and candidates (who have been entranced into candidacy), all Lutheran denominations, rosters (for example, ELCA,ELCIC, LCMS, ELM) and full communion partner denomination (UMC, Reformed Church in America, Presbyterian, UCC, Episcopal, and Moravian) rostered leaders who are currently serving a Lutheran context.
. This community welcomes all who fit this criteria and who wish to join. Sign up to become a member here.

Proclaim is funded by individual donations and through dedicated support from the E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Foundation and the Philip N. Knutson Endowment.+++
